Soundsphere

This install comes from the Kentucky Capitol building in Frankfort, Kentucky. A total of just eight (8) Soundsphere Q-12A‘s were used in the House of Representative and Senate chambers. This government auditorium sound system achieved two main goals: unobtrusive design and loud, evenly distributed vocal clarity.
Senate Chamber
Having a hard time spotting the speakers? So did we! An important aspect of this government auditorium sound system was transparency – that is, the speakers weren’t supposed to be visible. Speakers could detract from the classic Greek and French architecture, so the integrator build the Soundsphere Q-12A‘s directly into the center of the lighting fixtures.

Props to the integrator on this one – this government auditorium sound system is amongst the cleanest we’ve seen!

About the Soundsphere Q-12A
The Soundsphere Q-12A is a high-SPL loudspeaker capable of sound pressure levels of 121dB, with response down to 60hz. Thanks to the Q-12A‘s 180 degree dispersion, the smaller Senate auditorium only needed two speakers, while the House of Representatives auditorium utilized six. The Q-12A‘s were painted a custom two-tone grey/black to match the chandeliers.
A conventional government auditorium sound system would need to utilize at least twice as many speakers to achieve the same response and SPL. Not only did this client save money buying fewer speakers, but the installation was simplified as well: The integrator used the existing rigging points and cable runs meant for the chandeliers.
