IHSE introduces new JPEG-XS KVM extenders

IHSE is cooperating with Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS to bring JPEG XS functionality for ultra-low latency and high-quality video transmission to software and hardware-based devices. This enables the realization of innovative ultra-low latency video transmission with predictive and precise frame rate control for local video networks, broadcast, esports and VR/AR applications.

JPEG XS is an image and video coding system developed by Fraunhofer IIS that enables visually lossless image quality and can thus replace uncompressed raw data to significantly reduce bandwidth and energy requirements as well as the resulting costs. In cooperation with Fraunhofer IIS, IHSE is the world’s first KVM manufacturer to implement the novel codec in an IP core for near-latency-free transmission of high-definition video in extremely high quality, enabling resolutions of up to 10K and frame rates of up to 480 Hz.

The JPEG XS IP Core developed by IHSE is intended as a licensing product to other KVM vendors or Pro-AV manufacturers and is designed for use in devices with integral video transmission. The IP Core can be integrated into broadcast equipment such as cameras and enables flexible, application- and bandwidth-dependent scaling and compression of the image material.

The encoding process excludes frame drops and allows for variable subsampling options. In addition, the JPEG XS IP Core developed by IHSE is resource-optimized: Depending on the resolution or bandwidth, the size of the FPGAS to be used can be scaled, which significantly reduces space requirements and costs.

Another field of application is the integration of the JPEG XS library into the Draco CON App. The software based KVM solution enables users to access an IHSE KVM network via IP protocol from a standard, network connected PC.
