Christie Presents a One-stop Digital Cinema Showcase for Exhibitors at Cine Asia 2011
Posted on Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Cine Asia/HONG KONG – (December 6, 2011) – Christie®, a global visual technology company, is bringing a comprehensive range of digital cinema solutions, including trend-changing products and innovations, to Cine Asia, making this presentation one of Christie’s most momentous in the Asia Pacific region in recent months.

‘Make the Move’ is Christie’s unifying call to action for exhibitors to make the move to embrace technological innovations in digital cinema – from film to digital conversions, including 4K and high frame rate (HFR) projection standards.

“The exhibition scene is gaining a lot of momentum in terms of technological breakthroughs and this has provided exhibitors with many opportunities to adopt these new changes and adapt them to suit their needs. At Cine Asia this year, Christie will demonstrate that we are at the forefront of the technological breakthroughs currently happening in this industry on many levels. We are showcasing the most complete and the latest of our digital cinema solutions,” said Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific.

High Frame Rate (HFR) Technology Spotlight

Christie is setting in motion the industry-wide charge towards HFR conversion in expectation of showing movies filmed in HFR of 48 to 60 frames per second (FPS). HFR technology delivers fast-moving images in exceptional detail, improving the precision and smoothness of the images. To establish Christie’s commitment to HFR, Christie launched the Solaria™ 2.2 software upgrade for its Solaria series of digital cinema projectors, with Christie Previsto™ HFR technology. This will allow Christie Solaria™ Series 2 projectors to accept video content in HFR format.

Showing this newest technology at Cine Asia, Christie will organize demo sessions of HFR at its booth with the Christie CP2220 and Christie CP4230 digital cinema projectors, featuring the Christie Previsto HFR technology in 3D.

First Asian Preview of Integrated Media Block (IMB) Solution and Avias-TMS™ Theatre Management System (TMS)

Staying ahead of the digital cinema technology curve, Christie is addressing the exhibition industry’s move towards 4K and HFR with a fully integrated media block (IMB) solution with 4K and HFR capabilities as well as introducing the all-new Christie Avias-TMS Theater Management System at Cine Asia 2011

Physically integrated into the projector, Christie’s IMB becomes a primary part of the display device, creating a secure, high bandwidth connection that allows HFR and 4K content to be run without any compromise in image quality. According to Don Shaw, director, product management, Christie Entertainment Solutions, the Christie IMB works with all of Christie’s Solaria Series 2K and 4K projectors to make available an integrated solution from a single, trusted manufacturer. “Christie IMB works flawlessly with the Christie Previsto HFR. This innovation allows both 3D and 2D content to be played by exhibitors on a single, integrated projector system, exactly as desired by filmmakers.”

The Christie Avias-TMS™, a software application that allows exhibitors to centrally manage and synchronize all of their projection operations and devices, including content and playlists management, from one central location is set to change forever the way cineplexes are managed. Easy to set up and operate, the Christie Avias-TMS™ can be accessed from any location using a standard web browser, and is an unsurpassed cinema management tool. “Formed out of a strategic collaboration with Arts Alliance Media, the Christie Avias-TMS™ acts like the conductor of a choir, directing and orchestrating every detail in managing a theatre, regardless of the number of screens being managed, in the most worry free manner,” observed Shaw.

A preview of the Christie IMB using the Christie CP2220 digital cinema projector and a demonstration of the Christie Avias-TMS™ interface will be done with on 55-inch LCD screen at the Christie booth.

Network Operations Center (NOC)

Using the award-winning Christie® MicroTiles® to illustrate Christie’s state-of-the-art NOC for remote monitoring, maintenance and management of digital cinema projection and displays, Christie’s NOC safeguards cinema operations, minimize downtime and provide troubleshooting services.

Christie’s Commitment to HFR

The two main goals of Christie’s HFR activities are to help the industry develop the best HFR content and the best delivery system for HFR content. The first goal involves assisting leading-edge filmmakers and post-production companies in perfecting HFR movie creation, so the industry has the most engaging, entertaining content possible. The second goal is to assist exhibitors in showing these 3D HFR movies in all their glory. To these ends, Christie is helping create the standards for 3D HFR movies through formal and informal technology-development alliances with major producers and directors, post production facilities, studios and technology partners. On the exhibitor’s front, Christie provides one stop shopping for all the hardware, software and services that enable exhibitors to deliver a filmmaker's vision in stunning 3D HFR quality.
